Introducing Donald Yip (aka @donaldhyip), our #Landscape2019 Hero from Australia whose stunning photo has won him $1000 + 100,000 ⭐️s!

Meet him now and discover exactly how and with what equipment he took his winning shot!👇

“Hello everyone, my name is Donald and I’m a travel and landscape photographer from Melbourne, Australia.

My interest in photography began around the time digital cameras were becoming affordable in the early 2000s. I brought my camera on family holidays and enjoyed the variety of subject matters I could photograph: portraits, food, landscapes, architecture, you name it!

Eventually, I began to specialize in landscapes and cityscapes as I found photographing them relaxing. I’ve recently returned home to Melbourne, Australia, after living in London for nearly 3 years. Whilst there, I worked in the IT industry, and spent my weekends and holidays traveling and photographing around Europe and the world.

I first heard of Agora from a fellow photographer and good friend of mine, and was intrigued by the concept and the amount of contests on offer. I particularly enjoyed how easy it was to use.

Donald’s Winning #Landscape2019 Shot – Cosmic Clouds

Regarding my winning image, I took it with my Nikon D750 at one of my favorite locations in the entire world, Mount Bromo, Indonesia. This was actually my fourth attempt at this location and the conditions were absolutely perfect however when we initially got up there, there was zero visibility with a huge blanket of fog. But eventually it cleared to reveal this amazing view. The stars were captured using a large aperture, a tripod and a high ISO. A slow shutter speed allowed me to blur the rolling clouds.

I was very surprised and excited to find out that I was the #Landscape2019 Hero and I want to give a special thanks to the guest judge and of course all of you for voting. I’ll be using the prize to plan some more exciting adventures for 2020! For anyone considering entering future Agora contests I would really encourage you to just give it a go!”

The guest judge for this Contest has been Hugo Healy

We called upon Hugo Healy (@hugohealy), our #Aerial2019 Hero, to lend the Community a hand with choosing the Hero! Find out why he chose this winning photo! 👇

“Hey I’m Hugo, an aerial and landscape photographer from the UK. I specialize in drone photography, working in UK Film and TV as a drone/camera op. I have a passion for adventure and have always loved the great outdoors. Photography has lead me to see the world and I really hope my images can inspire others to explore our epic planet!”

Guest judge’s selection criteria: “I chose @donaldhyip’s image because I think it is a magical and unique take on a largely photographed location. I love the way the photographer has captured the night sky and Milky Way, almost exploding out of the volcano, very well lined up. Then in the fore ground you have this beautiful, silky moon like landscape with rolling fog flooding in. The photo has ended up with some fantastic conditions, and has a real wow factor to it. Very well captured!”

On behalf of the entire Agora Team, congratulations to Donald Yip for becoming the Hero! 👏🎉
