Meet the Hero behind the photo!

Out of the #Blue2019 comes another impressive winning photo & Hero! See who made it… 💙

Introducing Anskar Lenzen (aka @anskar), our #Blue2019 Hero from Germany whose beautiful photo has won him $1000 + 100,000 ⭐️s!

Meet him and discover where and how he took this stunning image now! 👇

My name is Anskar Lenzen, I am 29 years old and I was born in Germany. In 2014 I moved from Germany to the Netherlands where I started to study Wildlife Management as I needed a fresh start in my life. I wanted to do something I truly love. Two years later I bought my first camera and was soon hooked. What started as a hobby soon became a passion. Since then I have traveled many countries, worked in Sri Lanka and Ecuador, was on several photographic assignments and won a few competitions. Never would I have believed where this journey is taking me!

Right now I am finishing my masters degree, Wildlife Ecology, in Vienna. What comes after? I don’t know yet but I am super keen to find out. I somehow want to combine my knowledge for wildlife and nature conservation with my photography.

I’ve been using Agora for about a year or so and to be honest, at first I wasn’t sure if I was going to carry on using the platform as I simply didn’t have the time to manage yet another platform. However, when I discovered that one of my photos had been nominated for the Top 50 for the first time I was absolutely hooked. The app perfectly combines photography, fun and competition in a very good way. My favorite part about the app is that they doesn’t distinguish between newbies and pros. Everyone can enter a contest and everyone has the possibility to win. It’s about the photos, the quality of them and whether or not they fit the contest. It now has become one of my favorite apps/social media platforms which I don’t want to miss anymore.

The winning photo was taken in the Bay of Kotor close to Perast in Montenegro. We were on our way back from our initial sunrise shooting when I saw some lonely fishermen sitting in boats within a crowd of buoys. As the bay is surrounded by huge mountains the sun was just moving over them and created a fabulous, magical atmosphere. There was a certain silence and tranquility to feel and that is what I tried to let the viewers of this picture feel too. The golden hour had already been and gone, yet the light was still soft. With my own eyes I could see that blue was the dominant colour in this scene and that’s what I tried to show with the editing as well.

Montenegro was only one of four countries we visited on our two-week road trip through the Balkans. It was one of our most memorable journeys with the most incredible landscapes we have seen up to date. It is still wild, raw and untouched in many regions and tourists have not yet overrun these countries. We surely want to come back in the near future to explore even more hidden gems of these countries!

The guest judge for this Contest has been Dimitris Pallis

Our #Blue2019 Guest Judge – Dimitris Pallis

We called upon Dimitris Pallis (@pallisd), drone, landscape, travel and Top 50 photographer to lend the Community a hand with choosing the Hero! Find out why he chose this winning photo! 👇

“I am Dimitris Pallis and I come from Ermioni in Greece, I am an Electronic Engineer and I am 42 year old, happy husband and a proud father of 2 sons. I studied in the UK and finished with my studies back in the year 2000. I am the owner of a tech and commercial company in the electronics industry. I got into photography two years ago, after flying a drone for the first time. I drone as a hobby and I think that my view from above, could influence other people. Stay tuned there are a lot more to come!”

Guest judge’s selection criteria: “I chose @anskar’s photo as the winning shot as it was like love at first sight when I saw it when the Top 50 was announced. The light in this image is impeccable as well as the fact the water and colouring of the photo fitting perfectly yet subtly with the theme. I identify with this shot as it reminds as, as well as I am sure with many other photographers, of mornings trying to get similar effects and emotions on shoots. Very well done!”

On behalf of the entire Agora Team, congratulations to Anskar for becoming the Hero! 👏🎉
