“Hello Agora Community, my name is Asad and I’m from Indonesia. I first started photographing in 2013, at first it was just a hobby but now it has become my job.
I professionally shot wedding and birthday photos but love to take all kind of photos. I have won several local and national competitions however this is my first even international prize which I am so happy to not only have won money on but also been given the opportunity to make a difference with a donation which I like to give to some local schools in my area. Thanks so much Agora!”
My winning photo was taken in May 2016, when I went to take pictures of a wedding in a village not far from where I live. Suddenly I saw that there were 3 children busy writing and from where I was stood I had the perfect frame in mind. When I asked them if I could take a photo of them they were embarrassed and couldn’t stop laughing, but with a little persuasion I was they carried on working and allowed me to take their pictures. Education is so important to me and I loved seeing their enthusiasm about learning. I am very fond of this photo and so extremely glad that is has won this prize!”
The guest judge for this Contest has been #Smile2019 Hero Froi Rivera
“As an art lover, I use my camera as a medium to capture pieces of art. I started the hobby with with a simple point and shoot camera and became more serious about the craft once I got my first DSLR. I am self-taught photo-hobbyist, learning from my photographer friends and from photography platforms like Agora. It has been my utmost goal to showcase visual beauty of even the simplest of things.”
Guest judge’s selection criteria: “I chose @asadksungkar’s shot because I love the emotions of these children on this photo, it show candidness. The clever use of a grey background, instead of darkening it to black, means that the subjects are separated without losing the details. The bamboo cross is perfectly on center and compliments the bamboo floors they are sitting on. They are sat studingly so intently and interestedly that this photo really reflects the children’s desire to learn. An overall very well thought out and beautiful image, well done!”
On behalf of the entire Agora Team, congratulations to Asad for becoming the Hero! 👏🎉
